Third Sunday of Advent (Violet or Rose or Blue)

Sunday, December 17th, 2017

Morning Prayer: Ps 63:1–8 (9–11), 98; Am 9:11–15; 2 Th 2:1–3, 13–17; Coll 270

Holy Eucharist: Propers 270; Is 61:1–4, 8–11; Ps 126 or Canticle 18 (Luke 1:47–55); 1 Thess 5:16–24; Jn 1:6–8, 19–28; Preface of Advent

Evening Prayer: Ps 103; (Is 13:6–13); O Sapientia; Jn 5:30–47; Coll 270

In some places, this day is known as “Gaudete” Sunday and rose-coloured vestments are worn. A Christmas cre?che may be erected in the church for Advent 4, but hopefully not before 17 December when the Advent readings and prayers begin to focus on the Christmas story. The image of the Child is not placed in the cre?che until immediately before, or at the end of, the rst service of Christmas on 24 December.
