About David Burrows

David Burrows is a priest of the church, currently serving in parish ministry within the Diocese of Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador, a place he has called home for the past fifteen years. He consistently engages dialogue and action with the wider community through creative outreach projects. Cycling, kayaking, writing, and driving fast cars are distractions in his life.

Encouragement and Generosity

We are called to take the example of others in the faith, who have gone before us, like Barnabas. Perhaps we need to show generosity by selling or sharing the buildings and land that we have, so that others who cannot afford to live in this beautiful place may find a way for the church to bring them home. Go Big and Get Home!

However we begin to address the mystery of the Ascension, we must come to the realization that it is a part of the journey of Jesus, and thus can be celebrated as a part of our faith journey encounter, each and every year. I use this time to make this the “king of feasts” for our parish, inviting parishioners and newcomers to come home, and celebrate. Continue reading

For the beauty of creation – Litter Skeet?

How can we sing hymns extolling the beauty of creation, the goodness of all that God has given us, while degrading it each and every step of the way? Continue reading

Using our Senses

I hope that I learn, grow, and respond to the presence of Christ in touch, sound, taste, smell, and hearing. Continue reading

The Music in My Head

Since a child, I always had a strong connection between music and the things that I do. I have vivid memories of walking the tundra of Baffin Island with my dog, and making up songs and melodies relating to such things as the day’s reflection, the beauty of creation, and the challenges of growing up with elder sisters. Continue reading

In, and Out of Season

This morning I went to the beach at the end of my street, and saw the beauty of creation amid the stark reality of a harsh winter and a forbidding spring. Continue reading

Impressions and Images

I have sat and listened, prayed and hoped, as individuals and families have been faced with three realities: life needs meaning, life is unfair and life is fragile. Continue reading

Crustacean Christian

When I was growing up I had a number of different pets, one of which was a crayfish. I enjoyed the uniqueness of this pet, making sure it was fed, the water changed regularly, and the tank kept suitably clean. Continue reading

God-Given tasks, and God-given times

Photos, words, letters, memories these days are caught up in the digital memories of our phones, tablets, computers, twitter and Facebook accounts. There is so much memory that I rarely find or take time to examine them. The shot is taken, the email sent, little time is taken to reflect or to wait for anything. Continue reading
