Advent

It’s the most wonderful time of the year . . . sort of. Like many parents I’m sure, I find Christmas to be a bit of a mixed bag. Continue reading

Happy New Year!

September. The time of new beginnings, a new season, a new school year. One way we do this is with the “O Antiphons” which have been rewoven into the hymn “O Come, O Come Emmanuel.” They’re sung or said each night before the Magnificat at Evening Prayer in the last week of Advent, from December 17th on. What traditions do you have as Advent stretches out? Continue reading

Preaching through heartbreak: Newtown

It is at times like this I want to cry, “There is nothing to say. Just stop talking and listen to the silent sound of hearts breaking.” And, yet, dear preachers, it is our task to speak. And, so, what do we say? Continue reading
