Buying the magic

Do I regret taking my children to a Disney production on March Break? Readers may judge, but I will no doubt invest in other shamelessly corporate production consumables, imagining that a modern day parent has to give in to some of the junk. Our Canadian culture is becoming post-Christian; in fact, we might even be on the cusp of a post-Christian culture. More and more people know less and less of Jesus’ life and His sacrifice. It is easier to talk about a rabbit laying an egg than Jesus dying and rising. Continue reading

The peace of Christ and awkward hugs

Has individualism subtly entered into the life of the church—primarily through the ‘Passing of the Peace’? When we hug those who do not want to be hugged—or assume that everyone in the church must be comfortable with hugs because that is what we do—are we asserting an individualism that essentially denies the other person a life beyond our wishes? Continue reading
