Community rules and guidelines

The Community is dedicated to the development and maintenance of a healthy social network where Canadian Anglicans can share best practices and dialogue regarding life in the church. By joining The Community, you agree to abide by the rules and guidelines outlined in this policy. To remain a member of The Community, you must be considerate to all members. Repeated violation of these community standards may result in being banned from entry or participation in The Community.

Usernames and Personal Information

While The Community welcomes the use of nicknames as usernames, it does not permit anonymity or multiple accounts. Registration requires your real name and valid email address, though your email address will be hidden from other users. Like any church community, we want to know you!

If you choose to use a nickname, please refrain from using one that might be considered offensive. If you choose a username that The Community’s administrators or moderators consider obscene, indecent, abusive or inappropriate, we reserve the right, without prior notice to you, to change your username, delete your posts, deny you access, or any combination of these options. Your account with The Community is to be used by you alone, and passwords should not be shared. Aways exercise judgment when revealing personal information about yourself or others when you post messages in The Community. For more information, please read General Synod’s Privacy Standards Policy.

Code of Conduct

The Community exists to foster dialogue and mutual support within the church. The Anglican Church of Canada is a diverse community of believers, and that diversity is reflected online. Forum posts must be respectful and courteous, with the goal of building others up.

These types of behaviour are forbidden:

  • flaming: posts that attack or harass other people
  • trolling: posts intended to provoke emotional responses or arguments
  • campaigning: posts that promote or attack a political party
  • advertising: blatant solicitation for business
  • inappropriate content: language or media that is obscene, profane, sexually suggestive or abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, hateful, or that contains racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable content

Topics

The Community’s articles and forums are divided into topics and threads for ease of use. Please keep your posts focused on the topic at hand. If you would like The Community to offer a particular topic area, please contact the Online Community Coordinator.

Copyrighted and Trademarked material

Copyrighted or trademarked material may not be posted in the forums without the expressed permission of its author or owner. Brief excerpts or paraphrases of other written material may be posted, but should be cited. In the case that you are unsure about the copyright of a particular source, we encourage you to provide a web link.

User Content

As a member of The Community, you are solely responsible for the content of your posts. The Community’s administrators and moderators have the right, but not the obligation, to comment on or remove content that is in violation of these community standards.
