January 27, 2013 Third Sunday after Epiphany

This week’s readings

This week is our annual vestry meeting. I am trying to imagine us staging an event like Nehemiah and Ezra, where one of us just stands up, reads the Law, sits down, and then we all have our pot luck lunch. I bet more would be accomplished than we would first imagine.

I also have to share this piece of music. Whenever Psalm 19 appears in our cycle, the Canticle of the Sun by Marty Haugen springs into my head. I’m not crazy about his particular performance, so I found the best choral/congregational performance I could. Enjoy.

We also continue through Paul’s teachings on spiritual gifts with the most acted out youth group skit ever, the metaphor of the body. Perhaps someone will be brave enough to lay out a game of Twister in the transept…?

And, of course, Jesus continues to proclaim the law in the synagogue, but somehow this is different, like the congregation is hearing it again for the first time, perhaps?

What are you preaching or hearing this week?

About Dawn Leger

I am a priest in the Diocese of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, having served in Stouffville, Ontario. I think preaching is a profound and great privilege granted to us by God and our Church. I love the reading, the writing, the proclaiming, the dissecting and the dialogue. I also love to cook, sing, read and laugh, in no particular order.
